CUPS

Prince of Cups Kevin Riley The young Riley reflects the desire and idealism Kirk says he saw in himself when he first became a Starfleet officer. But in "The Naked Time," a psychological virus inspires Riley to take over the engineering section -- and sing Irish ballads all night while the ship heads directly into danger.
Princess of Cups Zarabeth Spock and McCoy inadvertently travel back into the ice age of a planet whose sun is about to go nova, only to meet another time traveler trapped there against her will. Because he reverts to the era and mind-set of pre-reform Vulcan, "All Our Yesterdays" enables Spock to fall in love.
Queen of Cups Janice Rand The attractive yeoman catches the captain's eye on several occasions, but when his id gets loose in "The Enemy Within," he pursues her with frightening intensity. Rand maintains her integrity despite the 23rd century sexism to which she is exposed.
King of Cups Flint The hero of "Requiem For Methuselah," who has lived for thousands of years as a warrior, artist, musician, intellectual, and very lonely man, tries to drive Kirk from his planet until he realizes that Kirk may be able to awaken the emotions of Rayna -- the android Flint has designed to be his eternal companion. When his plan tragically misfires, Flint devotes his life to charitable causes.

Ace of Cups Miri This open, trusting girl is just entering adolescence when Kirk appears on her planet -- a world where every adult dies of a terrible disease. Her romantic feelings for Kirk help trigger the maturity of "Miri," with the unfortunate result that she, like Kirk, develops the disease, and her envy of Janice Rand jeopardizes the crew's attempts to find a cure in time.
Deuce of Cups Roger Korby and Andrea Nurse Chapel's betrothed, long presumed dead, is found living underground on a planet once inhabited by beings with formidable technological skills. In "What Are Little Girls Made Of?", Korby demonstrates how that technology creates androids like Andrea -- as well as the cost of such powers to humans.
Three of Cups Charlie Evans "Charlie X" is descended from human parents, but the aliens who raised him gave him superhuman powers. When he arrives on the Enterprise, Janice Rand is at first impressed, then frightened by his abiities, which ultimately necessitate his unhappy removal from human society.

Four of Cups Natira The priestess of Yonada -- a spaceship disguised as a planet in "For the World Is Hollow and I Have Touched the Sky" -- falls in love with McCoy and heeds his associates when they tell her that her "world" is on a collision course with another. This leads to her punishment by the Oracle of Yonada, but enables Kirk and Spock to rescue Natira's world and save McCoy's life.
Five of Cups Deela and the Scalosians The card of disappointment and sorrow depicts "Wink of an Eye," in which a planet of sterile men and fertile women prepare to take over the Enterprise to use as a breeding colony. The aliens move too quickly for humans to see. Kirk prevents their scheme, but not before he has an affair with their leader.
Six of Cups Yeoman Barrows In "Shore Leave," the crew finds its fantasies coming true -- the bad as well as the good. Tonia Barrows gets pleasure from imagining herself as a damsel in distress from days of yore, but her amusement is short-lived when Don Juan comes to ravish her -- and kill McCoy!

Seven of Cups Balok A childlike genius disguised as a powerful alien, Balok threatens the Enterprise with destruction until Kirk uses a ruse called "The Corbomite Maneuver." Crewmembers then beam over to the alien ship, where Balok offers them a drink called Tranya as a peace offering.
Eight of Cups Zefram Cochrane and the Companion Cochrane, inventor of warp drive, crashed decades ago on a planet where a strange alien took him in. Kirk and the Enterprise crew, along with a desperately ill passenger, encounter Cochrane and witness a "Metamorphosis" as the Companion and the dying woman merge to become a new being.
Nine of Cups The Dohlman of Elaas The tears of "Elaan of Troyius" can make any man fall helplessly in love with her, but her obnoxious, childlike behavior make her a dangerous risk for Kirk's interests. Of greater consequence, she is betrothed to a man in an agreement end a war. Kirk is able to resist her when his ship is endangered; his love for the Enterprise enables him to assist the Federation in obtaining the dilitbium found on her world.
Ten of Cups Mira Romaine Scotty falls in love with a young lieutenant, but her mind and body are possessed by "The Lights of Zetar," a group of alien consciousnesses whose planet was destroyed long ago and who have been wandering ever since. Kirk and Scotty together devise a scientific solution to rescue her.
