Our Trip To England, March-April 2007

TORQUAY AND LIVING COASTS

Living Coasts is located in the seaside town of Torquay.

Though there are still working fish docks...

...Torquay is mostly a very pretty resort...

...which manages to sustain palm trees.

The town can be seen from within the Living Coasts enclosure.

Here are Gentoo and African penguins being fed at Living Coasts.

They crossed paths with people waddling from one side of the enclosure to another, while seabirds flew overhead.

Daniel and Adam with a swimming seal.

And Adam with a swimming Gentoo.

The tunnels provide great views of the birds from all sides.

There are artificial waves for the North Atlantic seabirds...

...and a beach for the shore scavengers.

Many sea birds live outside the enclosure as well, with diagrams so viewers can identify them.

There are also seals, and a small exhibit on rats and their devastating effect on sea bird colonies.

Here is Adam watching the macaroni penguins...

...the kind with the yellow eyebrows.
